Our Story

A Musical Journey Rooted in Tradition

Artistry Music shares the enduring tradition of Hindustani classical vocal music with learners in Melbourne and beyond. Founded by Jay Shah, our approach combines structured learning with respect for the musical heritage passed down through the guru–shishya tradition.

“Music is more than an art form — it's a journey that connects hearts and inspires generations.”

Jay Shah, Founder

Welcome to Artistry Music

At Artistry Music, we believe music is a journey that connects hearts, tells stories and inspires generations. Our aim is to help students develop musical understanding, confidence and appreciation through consistent practice, thoughtful guidance and a lifelong connection with music.

Each class moves from the swaras of a raga to the compositions that bring it to life. Lessons balance tradition with clear, patient teaching, so students understand what they are singing and why.

Meet Jay Shah

Jay's musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Shree Prakash Shah, and continued through further training with Shree Niraj Parikh of the Mewati Gharana. He teaches every Artistry Music class himself.

Primary guru, since childhood

Shree Prakash Shah

Jay's earliest musical education came from his father. From childhood he learned the foundations, discipline and devotion of classical training at home. That grounding remains the basis of Jay's singing and teaching.

Shree Prakash Shah is a senior artist, a gold medalist and a high-grade Akashvani artist from Ahmedabad. He took his talim from Shree Natvarlal Parikh and then Shree Krishnakant Parikh of the Mewati Gharana.

Building on that foundation, Jay received advanced training from Shree Niraj Parikh, a vocalist of the Mewati Gharana. Under his guidance Jay deepened his command of ragas, talas and the finer details of the gharana's style, known for its lyrical beauty and devotional depth.

Shree Niraj Parikh is a gandabandh shagird (formally initiated disciple) of Pandit Jasraj and the eldest son of Guru Shri Krishnakant Parikh, who first taught him. He is known for raga elaboration and rhythmic play, and has performed across India and in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and the USA.
