Classes
Begin your journey into Indian classical singing or continue developing your existing skills with Artistry Music. Explore swaras, ragas, talas, compositions, vocal techniques and the theory behind Hindustani classical music through a structured, tradition-inspired learning journey.
Our progression levels guide students from Prarambhik through to Sangeetacharya. Progression is focused on developing musical skills, understanding, practice and confidence. Contact us to discuss the stage best suited to your experience and goals.
The levels follow a structured approach informed by Indian classical music traditions and an established Indian classical music organisation. Each level builds on the last, so students make steady progress while developing a real connection with the music.

Ten levels in three stages. Each builds on the one before.
Swaras, alankars, simple compositions, first ragas and talas.
Begin with the fundamentals: swaras (notes), basic alankars (patterns) and simple compositions. This level builds voice control and a sense of rhythm.
Build on the basics with a focus on ragas and talas. Students learn introductory bandishes (compositions) and begin to recognise the distinct moods of ragas.
Explore new ragas and widen your repertoire. This level works on voice modulation, accurate swaras and improvisation such as meend (gliding between notes).
Alap, taan, bol alap, sargam and singing with tabla.
Students practise alap (melodic exploration) and taan (fast-paced phrases), take on more complex ragas and sing with tabla accompaniment.
Develop improvisation through bol alap (word-based improvisation) and sargam, and refine vocal technique.
Study more intricate ragas and talas, present longer compositions and deepen your understanding of theory.
Wider raga repertoire, layakari, theory and performance.
Bring performance and theory together, singing a wide range of ragas and talas with confidence.
Explore rare ragas, rhythmic patterns and advanced techniques such as jod (bridging sections) and layakari (rhythmic interplay).
Work on composing, teaching and presenting longer, more detailed performances, with a strong command of theory.
The most advanced level, focused on research, creativity and performance, and on preserving and growing the tradition.
